Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week presents a
Philippine Online Event educating voters on how to discern better choices in
the 2022 elections
“Botante na ako! Now what? Sino ba si WISELY? Paano ba bumoto tulad n’ya?
Aiming to help young voters properly discern their choices for the upcoming May 2022 elections, the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), Break the Fake Movement, Digital Rights Coalition (DRC), Foundation for Media Alternatives, Out of the Box (OOTB) Media Literacy Initiative and Yabong Philippines, are organizing an online forum as part of Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week, following the global celebration’s theme of “Media and Information Literacy for the Public Good.” The said forum will be done via Zoom and will be streamed live to the public on October 30, 2021, at 4:00-6:00 pm.
For many first-time Filipino voters, getting their name registered by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) was just the first of many steps to fulfilling one’s duty to the country. The question remains, what now? how do we use our right to vote appropriately?
As today’s social media landscape continues to blur the lines that separates the truths from the lies, the adage “Vote Wisely” has become easier said than done.
Organizers of this online panel discussion hope to bring a sustained and informed discussion about best voting practices—heading into the May 2022 elections—through a series of dialogue and workshops.
Sustaining a Conversation on how to vote like “Wisely”
The panel discussion will cover a series of talks focusing on how to gather and verify information that will help voters make informed decision in the 2022 elections. It also intends to raise awareness about manipulations of media narratives as well as identifying the issues many first-time Filipino voters are passionate about.
The participants will also include young Filipino voters. They will be invited through the youth organizations, schools, and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in the organizers’ network.
Again, the panel discussion will happen on 30 October 2021 (Saturday), from 4:00-6:00 pm. The event will be promoted through the social media accounts of the organizers. The organizers will also submit the event to UNESCO’s database of events for the Global MIL Week for co-promotion.
Reserve your slot and join us in amplifying the importance of a youth vote through well-informed decision-making and MIL-empowered electorate!
